From Ceramics to Bathrooms
Laufen are a Swiss company who believe in traditional values, transforming bathrooms into a living environment. Established over 120 years ago, Laufen blend together Italian design with Swiss precision to create practical, highly efficient and stylish sanitary ware that will look good in any bathroom or cloakroom.
The company started out in 1892 as a ceramics factory, manufacturing tiles and bricks, before embarking in to sanitation in 1895 with the design of the Nautilus toilet, a rather ornate, throne like affair. In 1925 they became the first and only ceramic bathroom producer in Switzerland and in 1964 it was a Laufen employee who invented the very first wall-hung toilet.
Since 2010 the company have gone from toilets, baths and sinks into producing every component thinkable for a bathroom including faucets and accessories.
Environment Friendly Credentials
From their manufacturing plants to the products themselves, Laufen are striving to ensure that they take care of the environment, whilst producing quality and stylish designs that are created to ensure that water is used sparingly. The have many environmental awards for both their manufacturing procedures and innovation of design including the Q-Plus symbol which signifies that their products comply not only with European standards but also the more stringent Swiss suissetec/VSA standard.
Their product range includes Kartell which is a marriage of the rigid lines of ceramic tempered by the light and transparency of plastic, Pro which has a comprehensive array of styles which are interchangeable offering a wide combination of solutions and Val which has simple architectural lines to name just three.
With the use of the revolutionary SaphirKeramik it is possible to create products which have fine lines and sharper corners without compromising on strength, allowing Laufen to offer designs in basins and baths that have crisp and sharp profiles rather than the usual chunkiness that we expect to see in our baths and wash-hand basins.
