Why Choose a Wall Hung Toilet?

A wall hung toilet mounts the pan off the floor entirely, with the cistern concealed behind the wall inside a support frame. It creates a cleaner, more open bathroom with no visible pipework and no awkward base to clean around. Because nothing touches the floor, cleaning underneath is straightforward. There’s no base, no pedestal, no corners to work around.

Wall hung toilets work especially well in smaller rooms. It takes up less visual space than a close coupled toilet and can make a cloakroom or en-suite feel noticeably larger. Installation height is also set at the frame stage, so the pan can be positioned at a comfortable height for the household rather than defaulting to a standard position.

What to Look For When Buying a Wall Hung Toilet

A rimless wall hung WC removes the hidden inner ledge where limescale and bacteria collect. The flush reaches the entire bowl in one motion, making the pan faster to wipe down and more hygienic over time. Several models in our range, including options from Duravit and Catalano, feature rimless technology alongside hygiene glaze coatings that further resist dirt and staining.

A complete wall hung toilet system requires a WC support frame, a concealed cistern, and a flush plate. In a narrow bathroom or cloakroom, a compact wall hung toilet with a short projection reduces how far the pan extends from the wall. In a tight space, that difference is noticeable. For a similarly streamlined look with a floor-standing pan, our back to wall toilets are worth a look.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are wall hung toilets strong enough to be safe?

Yes. The weight isn't carried by the ceramic pan. It transfers through the steel support frame, which is bolted into the wall structure and floor. Most standard residential frames are rated to support in excess of 400kg.

Provided the frame is installed correctly by a qualified plumber or bathroom fitter, a wall hung toilet is as structurally sound as any floor-standing WC.

What do I need to buy alongside the pan?

A wall hung toilet pan is sold separately from the frame and cistern system. You'll need a compatible WC support frame, a concealed cistern, and a flush plate. Some frames come with the cistern included, while others are sold as individual components.

Browse our concealed cisterns and WC frames to find the right combination for your pan. Toilet seats are also sold separately on most models.  Check the individual product page for compatibility.

Can a wall hung toilet be fitted to any wall?

Not to the wall itself. The pan mounts to a steel frame that sits within or against the wall, distributing the load into the floor and wall structure. A solid masonry wall or a correctly built stud wall with adequate noggins will both work.

The frame can also be surface-mounted against a solid wall and boxed in with a false wall if building into the wall isn't possible. Your installer will be able to advise on the best approach for your specific setup.

How do you access the cistern for maintenance?

The flush plate on a wall hung toilet is designed to be removed, giving direct access to the concealed cistern without opening the wall. Most routine maintenance, such as replacing a valve or adjusting the flush volume, can be done through the flush plate opening.

For anything more involved, access behind the frame is occasionally required, which is worth factoring in at the installation stage.

Is a wall hung toilet harder to keep clean than a standard WC?

Generally, no. In fact, the opposite is true. With no base on the floor and no exposed cistern, there are fewer surfaces to clean and nowhere for dust, limescale or sealant to build up. Opting for a rimless wall hung toilet reduces cleaning effort further still, as the bowl can be flushed thoroughly without water missing areas beneath a traditional inner rim.
