Shape first. Quadrant enclosures curve into a corner and make good use of space a square enclosure would waste, while an offset quadrant gives a larger showering area in the same corner footprint. Rectangular and square enclosures suit alcoves and recesses, a corner entry works neatly where two walls meet, and a walk-in enclosure or wet room screen drops the door altogether for an open, low-maintenance feel that works especially well in larger bathrooms.

Door style next. Sliding doors are ideal where a swinging door would foul a wall, basin or toilet. Bifold and infold doors fold inward to save even more space in a tight room, while pivot and hinged doors suit bathrooms with room to spare and give the widest opening.

Then the glass. Framed enclosures use slim metal profiles around the glass and tend to be the most affordable and the most forgiving to fit. Frameless and semi-frameless enclosures use thicker glass, usually 8mm or 10mm, with minimal or no framing for a sleek, modern look.
